7. Better Boundaries, Better Life

In this episode, we’re getting real about something that hits close to home for so many of us in vet med: boundaries.

We’ve both felt the weight of working through a lunch break, stretching ourselves thin, and trying to be everything to everyone. But here’s the truth: it’s not sustainable. And it’s not serving us, our clients, or our teams.

We dive into a stat that really made us pause, a recent AVMA Economic Forum study shows that vets are working an average of 45 hours a week, which is five hours more than expected. That adds up to six extra work weeks a year. Wild, right?

We share personal stories about what happens when boundaries are blurred and how that can lead to burnout, exhaustion, and a growing sense of misalignment. We also walk through the emotional and physical toll that poor boundary management can have, and offer practical ways we’ve learned to protect our time and energy without the guilt.

Throughout the episode, we unpack what clear, kind communication actually looks like and how it helps us hold boundaries more confidently. We also talk about how we’ve been reclaiming our mornings by using one of our favorite tools—the DREAMS Journal. It’s been such a powerful way for us to create intention and stay grounded in our values each day.
